Garden for Lovers
competition: 2005
location: Meran, Italy
The management of the publicly owned Trauttmansdorff Palace in Meran, South Tyrol, was seeking a new attraction for the Palace Gardens. The “Garden for Lovers” is a newly designed component to the existing gardens, which feature sections of mediterranean and far eastern plants, the “Vertical Garden”, vineyards and cultural activities.
The proposal offers visitors a sensual opportunity to experience the landscape in various ways, as each person “being in love” has a different meaning. Visitors will take on an active and responsive role in the unique environment of experiences. In the garden, they become part of the landscape, circulation space, pavilions and installations. In contemplating other beings, the perceiver reflects his own identity.
